Hi,

Accordingly to the chorus availability website, a cabinet nearby (RAG/B) is supposed to be live with VSDL as of December of last year.  Looking around the street, it doesn't look like work has actually started yet.  (there was some trench digging, but they stopped showing up a couple weeks ago)

I'm just trying to find out if there is an updated status (maybe they've decided against the upgrade?)  I emailing chorus directly to ask, but I never got a response.  I tried calling Telecom for information but they said they couldn't tell me.

Can someone advise who/how to contact to get info on the cabinet upgrades?

Thanks in advanced.

If the cabinet is already there then that's it, you should probably be able to get VDSL2. Cabinets don't usually have any additional digging to support them.

Cheers for the reply.

There is a really old school small box there (1m high), but not a 'whisper' cabinet.  (would it have to be a larger cabinet for VDSL?)   My attenuation isn't yet in the range of VDSL.

Do you think that cabinet would have to be upgraded to support VDSL?

Heya,

I've just run a query on an address within that cabinet region, and it's showing negative for VDSL.
The max attenuation of VDSL is 10.8dB, and the address I queried is around 13-16dB. A closer address to the cabinet/exchange may still be able to achieve VDSL.

If you PM/Email me your address, I can query it directly and let you know.

Hey CUnl,

Thanks very much for looking into it.  After complaining a couple weeks ago about a recent drop in speed, a Chorus tech switched my ADSL from the downtown exchange to a cabinet a couple kms away  (RAG/AB - unlisted on Chorus' webpage).  Given that, I'm quite certain the cabinet nearby was not completed last year, despite what the Chorus webpage says.   I asked the tech for info on the upgrade status of RAG/B, and he couldn't tell me either.    (and Chorus didn't respond to my email either).

Not sure how else to get an update. I even tried just signing up for VDSL2, but they never returned my call.  :-)

Heya newbellies,

The address I queried last night (midway in Greenslade) was on the RAG/AB cabinet.
The cabinet is definitely VDSL capable, it will come down to how far away you are from it.

Telecom doesn't offer VDSL (as strange as it seems), so emailing them would have fallen on deaf ears.

The only sure fire way to tell if you are VDSL capable is to prequal your address - fire it through via PM and I'll be able to give you an concrete answer :)
