Posted today the news about the first RBI site going live.

RBI is delivered wirelessly over 3G by Vodafone New Zealand, with backhaul provided by Chorus.

Prices are according to Vodafone "urban comparable pricing", but in reality they aren't.

$80 for 5GB and $90 for 10GB, then it's $30/GB... And up to $848 installation fee?

Now, how can the government justify this as "initiative"?

UPDATE: Vodafone provided additional information on a $20/5 GB pack that will be automatically offered to users who go over their cap. Read more here.

I think the big question why during the RBI tender process did the government switch from RBI funding region by region where multiple players would have been able to do a single region to a model where only someone who can cover all regions could apply.

A model different to where the UFB went

$90 for 10GB is fine. $30/GB thereafter is a joke.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Hey guys - maybe this should move to the NZ Broadband Forums as this is really a Chorus / Vodafone solution.

So $90 for 10GB, includes free local calling and phone line rental.

Not too far from other packages available.

Of course the install fees and additional data rates are a bit of a joke.

What are you looking at that $90 is a good price?

I think Telecoms install fee for a landine in a rural area is about that. Last time we contacted them it was at least $500 as it was semi rural. But if you live right out in the wops , it is over $1000 I believe.

The prices will be the same I would think, they are just putting in a few more cell sites , nothing special .

Fair point. But with the Telecom install, aren't you getting a load of copper and PVC stuff installed within a trench for that pricing?

Cost us $900 for 7.5KM/s from the Exchange (rural).
