NVIDIA gimped there GPU's this generation with their memory bus and their pricing is a tad insane.
You are paying about $200 NVIDIA tax at the moment with prices.

The 7700xt and 7800xt are due to release this year with rumoured to be after Gamescom.
Also possible rumoured price drops on both sides because GPUs are really not moving in units in the USA.

We tend to get the trickle down effect from that.

This is a round about way of saying the 4060ti and the 4070ti are pretty bad value this generation.
If you are going to look at a NVIDIA card I would be looking at the base versions.
So either the 4060 or the 4070.

The RX 7600 is better value with basically a free copy of Starfield if you buy with PB Tech or Computer Lounge.

The 4070 value is basically a 3080 with the same amount of ram as the refreshed version.
If you needed to buy a GPU today and wanted a better class than the RX 7600. That would be the one I would look at.
However if you can wait until September the 7700(xt) and 7800(xt) should be here or about to be here.

AMD has been waiting for the 6xxx series to dry up.
While in NZ it's been sold out for mostly awhile, there was still a lot of stock overseas.

A couple of months ago pb Tech had the 6700xt on sale for like $699, which was good value imo.

Rumours at the moment is that the AMD 7000 series GPUs didn't have as much fps gains as AMD expected.
So if you are wanting to benchmark CPUs.
The rumours and this is only rumours but the 7700 may be equivalent to the old 6800.
The 7800 maybe equivalent to the 6900.

So you can run CPU benchmarks off the AMD 6000 series.
However I would hold buying anything just about now if you can.

Yeah, that is what the rumours of price are at the moment.

Better than the lockdown & mining crazy boom.

There are loads of NZ miners trying to sell their GPUs at the moment on trade me.

I have been keeping an eye out for a cheap deal but people are doing insane bids for 2nd hand hards that have been mined on 24/7.

While some miners may have looked after their cards, there are a lot that haven't been and there have been several with rust.

Basically if you want to step up from a RTX 4060 or a RX 7600 GPU, be perpared to spend through the nose.

Also double the money you spend, will not get double the performance.

NVIDIA have annouced in one of their shareholder meeting that their 5000's series GPU's will not be here until 2025.

My guess is that the AMD RX 7700 will prob price launch around ~$750NZD and the RX 7800 be around ~$1000NZD.

That will land the 7700 around the 4060Ti 16GB which is a bad card BTW with intial benchmark from MSI, aka same performance as the the base 8GB 4060TI which is not worth the money imo.

The 7800 will land around the 4070, it will should be 16GB vs 12GB but benchmark wise, i don't know.

My guess is the 7800 will be a tad faster due to memory bus at higher resolution but the 4070 will prob be better when Ray Tracking settings are turned up.

Price is going to be insane if you want to scale up from a RX 7600 or a RXT 4060, hence why i still see value in AMD4.

It might be end of life but it is a stable platform and you the price difference would mean you could go for a RX 7700 or 4060TI or maybe even stretch to a RX 7800 or 4070.

Personally do no recommend going for 4060TI, it just isn't worth the price increase.

Depending on when you buy, getting a free copy of a starfield makes AMD a solid option.

Steams has base verison as $130 and perimium as $180NZD.

AMD has deals of both base and perimium of starfield depending on what product you buy, and if you are going to buy starfield anyway it is like a discount off a GPU or CPU.

Personally i have a 6600xt, love it, gaming with it at 4k in some games.

But i am keeping an eye out for the up coming RX 7700 or 7800 because i bought the 6600xt before i had a 4k monitor.

If you are going to stick at 1080p then there isn't really a reason for going for more than a 7600 or 4060.

If you are thinking 1440p both a 7600 and 4060 will still work but you will need to turn settings down from ultra.

I have been looking around and the current next step for me would be a 7900 XT at about $1500 - $2000, if i was going to buy today.

But then i would also need to upgrade from my current 750watt GPU....it starts adding up really fast.

Which is way more than i want to spend, so holding and will prob pull the trigger on a RX 7800 if the Starfield bundle is still about.

Jase2985:

3080 have been selling around $750 on trade me, 3070 are wanting $600 but usually not getting that price.

Most people buying don't want to spend more than $600 for 8gb of vram these days and TBH i think the 4070 is a better deal if you are going to spend $1100 on a 3080.

About the same speeds in benchmarks with 2GB more of vram.

I think the vram issue is a bit blown out of the water but there are games that need about 12gb or more if you want to run at ultra settings at 1440p/4k.

I think i would get around $250, maybe $300 if i sold my 6600xt (paid $699 at release) because the 8GB 2nd hand market is so swapmed by miners.

People can turn down settings and textures to get under their vram limit but to be fair when spending $700 on the GPU most of those people want to game at Ultra.

I always tell people consoles are the way better option if you want decent gaming for a more afforadable price, the PS5 and Xbox X are beasts for their base cost.

If i am going to spend ~$1000k on a GPU i would like 16GB min of vram but that is personal preference.

If NVIDA put 16GB in their 4070 i would have actually bought it.

5 ex miner 3070 for $450 on TradeMe as buy now.

Bit of a risk but would be a step up from a 4060 / 7600.

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/computers/components/video-cards/pci-express/listing/4238834131?bof=MW3cq2Lq

Not sure if i would take the risk myself.

Thanks for all the advice, think I’m sorted now but will hold off getting the Graphics card until the new ones come out, bit of luck might get it checked on Black Friday. My next challenge is to plug everything in :)
