Hi,

I've had a headless server running for a year or so with no issues, but four times this weekend I've tried to connect only to get no response. Pressing the Power button immediately turns it off, then after turning it back on it works for a while and then dies again.

The third time this happened, I connected a screen. At first nothing was shown at all, so I powered off and on again. It booted up normally and all was well. Then it died again and the screen showed an attempted PXE boot, as if there was no boot device.

Could this maybe be a failing SSD? It seems like it might work for a while and then die until power cycled. If you yank the boot drive would Windows (10) reboot the system?

Unfortunately I don't have a replacement drive handy so I can't do a quick swap to test my theory. Does it sound like it could be a failing drive or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I have a full backup so no issues there.

Behodar: I'm now fairly confident that it's the SSD itself dying, so I'm going to say "problem solved"

It would pay to check for firmware updates for the SSD; my work laptop had similar symptoms with the hard drive "disappearing" and then coming back after a power cycle; this was resolved through drive firmware.   Note it was a spinning rust/ssd hybrid rather than a pure SSD, but it would still pay to check the SSD manufacturer's website for drive firmware.
