Hey guys & girls,

Are there any equivalent motherboard sockets to the "socket a(462)" motherboard because i need a new one and i don't see any under the name socket a/462 and more. i am asking this because i have a amd athlon xp 2800+ cpu and my motherboard only reads up to 2600+ so instead of reading it as 2800+ xp it reads it as 1900+ mp. any help would be appreciated and please don't post comments like you should just upgrade your cpu to a newer one because the 2800+ is fine for what i use it for at the moment anyway.

Thanks,

-WhiteFoxxx

find one of the trademe sellers that does 'upgrade boxes'. Most of them should be able to source exactly what you need at a good price...

I found this link through PriceSpy, don't know anything about the company though. But the motherboard is a good model.

Have you checked for BIOS updates to your motherboard? Sometimes BIOS updates are issued to provide support for new CPUs.

What type of board do you have? Have you checked to see if there is a bios upgrade for your motherboard to correctly recognise the speed?

There is only one Socket A. VIA and Nvidia were the two main (only?) companies that created chipsets to cater for Socket A (KTxxx and Nforce respectively), with several companies manufacturing motherboards based on these. You'll have a hard time finding a brand new Socket A motherboard as they are no longer being made. The link I provided earlier was the only one I could find in stock without looking too hard. If your question was asking for a compatible socket from a newer generation then the answer is no - Socket 754,939,940 and AM2 are all incompatible. Your best bet may be to try second hand, if I were you I'd scan an auction site like Trademe and perhaps use the reviews database at www.mbreview.com to check out your prospective purchases. My tip would be to go for an Nforce 2 Ultra motherboard.

Ebay is your friend, I was able to find dozens of results just searching for my favorite specific motherboard for that socket, the Asus A7N8X Deluxe (original or "E" version). There are people out there trying to scam you, but there are plenty of good, honest sellers too, just be careful.
