Buying from the US?

Hi all,

I have found that buying from the US is generally a lot cheaper than buying from here for PC parts so I started to look around for vendors.
I found tigerdirect.com which I have heard is one of the biggest and trusted computer part vendors so had a look around their site and found that they DO ship to NZ and accept overseas debit cards (but not credit).

I am wondering if anyone here has perviously bought from tigerdirect? How fast is shipping, customer service, alternatives, etc?

Amazon won't ship many things to NZ directly. You can use youshop but that can get expensive.

Youshop is ok depending on what you want and how large/heavy the parcel is.
Shipping is one of those things...you either just pay through the nose or shop about.

I wouldn't and I never ever bought anything from TigerDirect.com (read about too many unhappy/grief stories). TD sells in US and Canada.

I suggest if you are going to buy in the US online computer places. The place I bought from in Canada for 13 yrs was www.ncix.com (they also sell in the US - http://us.ncix.com/). I probably made 100 orders from NCIX over those 13 yrs, if there ever was a problem...they took care of it pretty fast (just read any product complaint on their forums and chances are a NCIX employee responds to sort it out).

!.) They will also price match pretty much any lower price you find at a competitors online store (via the price match feature on their site). I was never refused a price match.
2.) They have a public forums to ask questions and or post complaints (http://forums.us.ncix.com/).
3.) Customer reviews of products.

The only thing I can find like it in NZ is Ascent (the only thing missing customer product reviews, the forums and price match).

I believe Tigerdirect will not work unless you have a US credit card also don't forget to apply state taxes based on where you send the items to

depending on what you want to buy i would recommend dealextreme...its free shipping but the only thing is it does take about 3 weeks to get the item delivered. I have bought quite a few things from here, and if you do encounter any problems they can refund or send out a replacement.

Taking in shipping and exchange rates... I have decided not to buy from the US.

Alpha City's current sale just makes it unreasonable to buy from the US. Most things over there are on a good discount here, rivaling the prices.
As a bonus I don't have to wait to get the parts :)
