I have an iMac that has 4 USB3.0 ports (situated, annoyingly, behind the monitor where they are very hard to get at!) and I need more.

A desktop hub is the answer I assume and it will also give me some easy access ports for things that are plugged in and unplugged frequently.

However, there is a multitude of varieties and I can find no clear direction on what the differences are, and few of them - if any - are by recognisable brands.

Ideally I want 4-7 ports, all full speed USB with charging ability etc.

Any recommendations?

hey, funny this comes up, i'm just looking for one myself .

The best usb 3.0 hub i can find is on amazon.  Look for "anker usb 3.0 hub".

It seems that USB3.0 adoption has been slow at best and market availability is limited.

I know. Ditto Thunderbolt.

Also, at least in TB's case, ludicrously expensive.

It doesn't help you unfortunately, but for anyone else reading the thread and has a macbook/ultrabook, theres a nice "HooToo" unpowered 3 port USB3 hub with gigabit ethernet, good for those that dont have ethernet and need extra ports.
