Hi,
I have a acute problem with this pc of mine i hope u guys can help me sort this out
my config as follows

Asus M2n motherboar
3600+  1.91 ghz AMD Athlon processor
1 gig kingston ram dimm2
160 gb sata hdd
win xp sp 2

now the problem is i had brought the above parts and had the new pc assembled. the trouble has been from day one. If i press the bootup button the hdd light glows but the motherboard light on the atx box does not glow and the computer does not bootup  at all there is no display on the screen the fans on the motherboard and the cabinet are moving but there is no movement as far as bootup is concerned. the only solution i seem to have is remove the ram hit the reset button after 2 - 3 attempts the motherboard detects there is no ram and starts to beep then i put the ram and the system starts up. before i came up with the solution i have had the entire parts changed from the motherboard to the ram  except the processor the problem still persists.

Have you tried updating the Bios?

When turn the PC on, do you see anything on the screen? Normally you will see the BIOS information before it starts detecting the RAM and HDD's etc.

When it beeps what is the combination of beebs? If you know what brand of BIOS you have you can normally figure out what the beeps mean to see what the problem is.

when i press the bootup button there is no beep for the computer to juiceup. There is no bios screen nothing. on the cabinet there is only a hard hdd light (red) which is on and the green light which indicates the mob activity is completely dead. The fans on the CPU and in the SMPS are moving but there is no bootup happening. Inside the cabinet the mob green light is on but there is no signal going from the mob to the monitor. I have to remove the ram and then bootup the pc at this stage the mob does not discover that the ram is mising. after pressing the ATX cabinet button for 5 sec the system shuts down after 2 - 3 such attampts the mob detects thats the ram is missing and then beeps then i shut down the system and mount the ram and then power it on this is when the mob detects the ram and loads the bios and boots the comp up. I had the mob, ram hdd, replaced but the problem still persists.

Sorry, but can you please break up your sentences, as it is a bit hard to read a one huge block, thanks.

Well seeing as you have had everything replaced except the Processor, then that may be your problem.

If you are confident in doing so, remove the processor and see what happens, does the PC beep?

Also, you may have a faulty PSU which is damaging the motherboard.

thanks for the info and forgive my ignorance as this is my 1st time on a forum

this is got me thinking there cud b a problem with my PSU as this is
the only product which came back from the repair shop as it is as the seal was intact on the box

The motherboard cud not have a problem as on the 1st motherboard i had the same problem i has it exchanged
and now i have a new 1 with the same old problem as b4.

with the earlier mob the ram had blow once. now i have a new one so figuring out the problem is a real pain. as if i change
any one product the comp seems to work fine for a day or 2 then the problem is the same.

Sorry to be a pain again, but text speak is frowned upon here, plainy for the fact some people do not like reading it and will not help you becuase of it.

Anyway...

Have you tried removing the CPU to see what happens? Does it work?

Did you assemble the PC yourself or was that done by the parts retailer?

gbc99: then i put the ram and the system starts up

When you say the system starts up, how far does it get?

i have the all the parts changed you can say the whole pc is new except the power supply which had also gone for a checkup and came okay, after the guys at the repair center gave it a clean chit.

Now the problem is as soon as i hit the boot up switch there is only a red light the green light never comes on till about after a minute. then i can see the display on the screen, before you guys jump on anything let me tel you that the there is no problem with the display as it is on the board.

I have managed to to re-seat the processor on the new mother board but the problem is still there. when the mother board does not boot-up there is another thing i have tried sometimes i remove the ram and wait for the beep if there is none then i have to press the master button on the cabinet for 5 seconds for it to shut down and try again if i am lucky i get it in 3 - 5 attempts.

I have had the computer assembled with the help of the guy from whom i brought the parts from.

I would say your PC is not correctly configured, a cable is inverted, or not enough thermal grease on top of the CPU, bad heath transfer, faulty power supply or wrong BIOS parameters.

Those are the most common causes of problems for home built PCs.
