Hi there

Yesterday I was fine accessing www.gazette.govt.nz

Today I get 'HTTP 404 Not Found' messages for gazette.govt.nz, dia.govt.nz and beehive.govt.nz

Doing a tracert to gazette I get:

tracert www.gazette.govt.nz

Tracing route to dsvzl.x.incapdns.net [127.0.0.1]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  Barry [127.0.0.1]

Trace complete.

What the heck? What's going on?

Any assistance greatly appreciated
Stevie

Just checked my host file and it contains the following:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
#    127.0.0.1       localhost
#    ::1             localhost

What DNS do you have on your PC and on your router? What do you get if you run nslookup and enter the website address?

DNS on my laptop - 111.118.175.56 and 118.127.33.48 (UnblockUS)

DNS on the router - 203.97.78.43 and 203.97.78.44 (Vodafone)

Results from NSLookup:

DNS server handling your query: localhost

DNS server's address: 127.0.0.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:

www.gazette.govt.nz canonical name = dsvzl.x.incapdns.net.

Name: dsvzl.x.incapdns.net

Address: 149.126.77.107

website: http://www.kloth.net/services/nslookup.php

Edit: just disabled the UnblockUS DNS servers and the page loads fine. Guess it is a problem on there end.

I see you're using the Vodafone cable DNS on router. These sites use the Incapsula CDN/DDoS protection service. If you run nslookup and at the prompt you enter www.gazette.govt.nz 203.97.78.43 you will probably see a different IP address. I'd guess the transparent proxy is having problems with different addresses and the Incapsula IP addresses.

Try without the UnblockUS DNS...

So a Vodafone, rather than UnblockUS, problem?

No. A configuration problem caused by using a third party DNS. Until we have the answer to my question and we test with a couple of things it is easier to go with that.

I'm not sure if you saw my edited post yesterday, but I now use Vodafone DNS servers on my laptop and the pages load fine.

Ok then. I suggest you try UnoTelly. They have a trial and a discount code.
