Hi - just a very quick and dirty question please.

Which is "faster" - 2.8ghz P4 or AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+?

Depends on what you mean "faster", you need to be more specific. I assume you mean how the two CPUs perform with certain applications, such as games, Photoshop etc, rather than the clock speed of the processor.

Have a look at Tom's Hardware CPU charts, there you can compare different CPUs perform.

Yes, I mean performance with games and apps etc.

Tom's hardware charts are good to a point but, especially with the CPU charts, it assumes a certain level of component knowledge. For example, I did look in there for a comparison, but I could not find any reference to a 2.8 P4. To be precise, there were a couple of 2.8's, but there were specific formats or "models" which did not appear to match what I have.

As a side note, Tom's video card comparison charts, especially the monthly "What about these other cards" chart, is extremely useful (assuming they know what they are talking about).
