Hi,

My mate got a computer from a friend, which was riddled with viruses so I said I was going to do a reformat.

During the reformat (from a XP Pro disk) the computer blue screened at about 100% i would say, (the last time i check it was above 90% and seemed fine)

I didn't take down the error number stupidly (had like the word stop in it or something).

And now when I restart  the computer it freezes on the very first screen. Where you can select like the boot menu and setup etc.  Can't get beyond this in anyway. Tried to clear the CMOS of the BIOS but that hasn't done much.

When I turn it on there are like random lines on the screen (only when it is on) and they change when you move the computer around.

Any ideas would be awesome.

Thanks,
Andysh

If physically moving the computer causes onscreen issues to flare up, and its not the connection of the video cable doing it, then you have a physically damaged / malfunctioning component somewhere.

You shouldn't be moving a turned on desktop PC though, they can very easily damage the hard drive.

Sorry not moving around, but more just tapping it on the side.  I think I have gotten somewhere tho, I disconnected everything from the Mobo (bar the cpu) and connected things one by one and it seems to be ok, went through the reformat all ok, just coppying the files now.

Sorry for the double post but I don't think there is much need to start a new topic ha.

I finally got Windows XP on the computer but now a new problem has arissed.  Turn the computer on, all is ok for about 10-15 mins, then from that the computer just automatically restarts and gets suck on the very fist screen after reboot. The screen is the compaq screen and the text is all distorted.

I am thinking this might be a heat problem, because if I hard restart the computer it gets stuck on this page, but if I wait for awhile I can get through to windows, but then the cycle starts all oer again.

So I guess I should get a heat monitoring program, and see if the heat is going up?

Thanks for all you help,
Andys

EDIT: I installed Speedfan 4.33 and saw that Remote 2 is at 111C and increasing also that Fan1 is at 0RPM, i guess this is related somehow.  The temps of everything else are ok, at about ~30C Also Fan 2 which is spinning is over the CPU so guess that is alright, so I don't know whats up :S
