Time to upgrade my 10" CRT

Looking at a LG 22" L226WTQ which I can get for $450 inc
I see there are some AOC and Vewisonics arounds $300-380 inc

What do I need to look for in buying an LCD?

Its mainly for watching DVD's Freeview and the odd downloaded tvshow and maybe bluray in a year or so when I have a better pc

I would look for the following:
1) Dead/bright pixel(s) policy. If you have one malfunctioning pixel, it ruins the entire viewing experience.
2) Resolution - the higher the better.
3) Viewing angle

I am sure others can offer more pointers too!

if you plan on watching anything on it that has a lot of movement (i.e an action movie) you should also check the monitor's response time, the lower the better. should be around 8ms. also i would go for viewsonix over AOC anyday. viewsonic make very nice screens (some say the best on the market) where as AOC is definately nothing special. the best thing you can do is "try before you buy", take a dvd in with you and test them out and make sure they're suited to your needs.

I got the AOC 212Va Monitor, 22" LCD, 1680x1050, DVI, Speakers, Silver. It has a 3year warranty and around the $400.

It's very nice for watching Movies/TV/video, they all look great, especially the DVD quality stuff. smplayer has nice filters to deblock + deburing and that fixes any stretched pixels issues, even the youtube downloads look as good as TV.

Plus LCD's pay for them selfs with the power savings from using a large crt screen.

I got the Samsung 226BW... its an older model now.. but still really nice screen..
Its around $500 right now..

Or you could look at getting a 24" screen..

With the 24" you get 1920x1200 so you get get the full 1080 if u are watching High Def movies..
Have seen the Acer P214WV for $624.90
