Probably a silly question but my Google-fu is failing me on finding an answer ...

If I have a USB-C charger, and connect a USB-C to micro-USB cable to it, can I charge my Samsung S6 phone ?

I know I can charge USB-C devices via standard USB ports, but not found an answer for the other way around .. would rather find out before trying :-)

Thanks!

Other than the physical port differences requiring an adapter Type-C USB is fully backwards compatible to USB 2.0

I don't think a USB C to standard USB micro adapter is supposed to exist (for safety reasons - over charging non USB C devices). But just because they're not supposed to exist doesn't mean they won't be for sale on AliExpress etc.

They are backward compatible the other way only.

Yes they will. Charger will only out put over 5v with negotiation with a device and a cable that IDs that it is also good for it. Qc2.0 etc may throw a spanner in the works since it's not supposed to be done over type c but there are some devices out there that do.
