Over Xmas I went to visit Himself's aunt.

She mentioned her laptop wasn't working.

And she had bought a new one to replace it (this could have been 2 years ago but at 85y the passage of time is unclear).

Anyhow, the "new" one turned out to be an unopened Surface Pro 2.

I offered to have a look at both of them.

The SP2 seems to have a very loose connection between the cord that plugs into the power outlet and the brick bit that plugs into the SP2, and when I twiddle them a bit I can hear the electricity crackling.

This does not seem normal to me, but is it normal for this model?

I have one. I've never tried this. Btw, there was a recall on the mains power lead due to fire risk.

@gzt , thanks for that link, I've requested a replacement so will see what happens.

Unrelated, long ago i had some problems after upgrade to W10.

Eventually I upgraded to Fall Creators and then used the 'delete all files' recovery option.

I'm not sure if it was Fall Creators or the clean recovery but no problems after that. Really really nice actually. The free upgrade period is over tho. Going from 7 to 8 is probably more jarring than going 7 - 10 FC imo.
