I have an MSI 740GM-P25 motherboard and trying to install a Gigabyte GT710 1GB PCIe card.

The card fits but outputs nothing, plus the internal graphics haven't switched off (they still work).

I can't see any obvious incompatibility but perhaps there is ?  Or is it a duff card ?

There appears to be no dip switches or BIOS settings to change graphics, although I may have missed something. I tried both SVGA and DVI cables.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Do you have enough power? Some GPU's require a reasonable power supply.

I suspect so, there was previously a Gforce card in the PCIe slot at one time. This one doesn't require it's own power lead. No fans on it, just a heatsink.

That is a very old card. Its only pcie 2 so perhaps the motherboard need you to turn the speed down to match? There have been options on most of the recent boards I have used to choose between 3.0,2.0 and some other stuff.

Update your BIOS to latest, check the BIOS settings in terms of the display settings and see what it says when a PCI-E card is connected.

Reseat the graphics card, trying plugging in the DVi or VGA cable in again and set your monitor to use the connection.

Otherwise try the card in another PC to confirm if it works.
