Ok here we go

Specs

OS - windows 10 Pro 64bit

PS - coolermaster rs-700-pcaa-e3

GPU - HIS r9 270x Iceq X² (2nd hand been in about 3 weeks, haven't really done any games till the last week) and yes the 2 6pin connector things are attached

CPU - Intel Core i7 3770 @ 3.40GHz

Ram - 16gb

Games that cause a crash, lego Incredibles, lego Marvel Super heros 2, Hue (Higher specced games but should run)

Games that run OK, Adam Wolfe, She remembers caterpillars (lower specced games)

Latest AMD drivers 19.1.1? I don't know it told me to update today, but crashes were happening on the previous 18. whatever drivers

All games are under steam if that makes any difference

Where can i look to find what is causing the crash, the games are not getting far they seem to crash within a minute of stating at the latest

Do the games crash back to desktop or does it restart Windows 10 completely? It could be that you have a faulty ram stick. I would try removing one stick of ram at a time and testing the games. Continue until you either don't get a crash (and therefore have found the faulty stick) or it continues to crash and you can eliminate the ram as the problem and move on.
I had a similar issue and it was the ram that was the issue hence me suggesting this first.

Did you completely uninstall/remove all drivers, software, OCs etc associated with your previous GPU - especially if it was a non-AMD card - but even if it was I would still remove all trace and do a fresh install.

Try downloading and running Furmark to give the video card a good workout. If it crashes or glitches, then that would indicate a cooling problem.

Most likely your GPU failing causing the amd driver to crash which causes the game to freeze or close. Try with a different graphics card and see if you still have the same problems, if you do it's a program on your PC misbehaving, you can also try and start Windows with only the bare minimum of programs and services running (msconfig) and startup program on task manager and see if you can pinpoint the problem there. Also look in event viewer if you haven't already for any errors that may have been recorded.

That doesn't look promising does it, to be honest the temperatures don't get very high cpu was around 40 and GPU went up to 60.

I don't know if it matters but, when i first started the test, the temperature rose rapidly to 60 video was perfect then the temperature dropped and artifacts began appearing on the screen

this is a video of what it looked like running at default settings it locked up when i tried to exit an i had to reboot

No the issue wasn't happening before putting this card in, as i was using the onboard graphics, but they are a bit low specced to run these games anyway

I don't have a reliable other card to test with

As to uninstalling the other drivers, i can't see any trace of them, they would be intel driver anyway

I am sorry but your GPU is toast :(

There are a few youtube tutorials of people putting them in ovens to trying specific firmware for that card so I'd do some homework and see what you come up with. I have seen a 290X respond similar to bad drivers.

I'd suggest you try a fresh install and use the windows obtained driver and go from there but I'd say hardware ultimately.

60 degrees is fine - doesn't look like it is directly temperature related unless it is not correctly reporting the temps.

Artefacts do suggest a faulty GPU though...got any leverage with the seller?

Could always try down-clocking the memory and processor core a little with MSI Afterburner or your tweaker of choice and see if that makes any difference. What speed is it all currently running at? You don't already have some previous overclocking profiles for your old card which are loading in the background?

Yeah, that card can do higher, I've got similar one and was sitting at 75+ the other day running games at 1920x1080 (loves this heat - not).

Artifacts usually point towards overheating or corrupt memory.

Think you'd be best to look for another card sorry.

ok thats my old dead GTX 460, which seems to be working, better the animation was smooth with no artifacts

regarding the other card

I have never used any overclocking or tweaking tools, to be honest i wouldn't have a clue how to

I did try removing all drivers (Intel, AMD) and starting with the windows supplied driver but that made no difference

So i guess I am in the market for a new card very shortly as the 460 had a weird habit of running smoothly for months and then refusing to go for a week

Any recommendations for a midrange gaming card, preferably one that doesn't use a ton of power or make a racket and i am on a budget as i will be buying a harddrive as well very soon
