hi all, just interested in advice on my playtech pc, which is coming up 6 years old and doing pretty fine.

I play some strategy games but don't need heavy 3d graphics or a lot of processing power.

PC is starting to get a bit sluggish when a modern game is loaded (can respond slowly especially when alt-tabbed away from game and typing something like now).

Is there a sensible fix (eg 8gb more ram or a new graphics card) or should I wait and replace whole box?

cheers for any tips ! D

Specs below. (Also, I've got a 128gb SSD with OS, and 2tb HD)

Radeon Software Version - 17.7
Radeon Software Edition - Crimson ReLive
Graphics Chipset - AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
Memory Size - 1024 MB
Memory Type - GDDR5
Core Clock - 900 MHz
Windows Version - Windows 10 (64 bit)
System Memory - 8 GB
CPU Type - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz

I'm guessing your games are installed on your mechanical hard drive.

Buy a decent size ssd and migrate everything over and it will feel like new again.

I'm on similar spec system (except my 280X card died), and have no issues - I run 3x 240GB SSD though, no spinning disks in the system. So yeah, another SSD and maybe another 8GB of RAM would make a difference.

Thanks both - that's good advice. I could squeeze a second ssd in for the executables I use the most.

Yes, amazing how long pcs last these days - other than one particular game, this one still feels great.
