I want to store stuff on a drive which is portable. More than a USB stick can carry but I want to use it with my laptop and not require a powerpoint for an external hard drive.

Does such a thing exist?

Yep, look for a 2.5 inch USB drive - most are powered from the USB port that it plugs into on the computer. Cheap cases are also available with which you can build your own, by putting an old laptop drive in.

Depends what your actual use is, but I’ve just bought a couple of SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 500GB USB 3.1, 1TB also available. My use is backing up the camera when travelling light; camera SD/CF card in card reader to phone USB OTG, phone to SanDisk. Works a treat. Got mine from PBTech where they seem to be the cheapest at the moment.

The SanDisk is tiny, IP rated and shockproof. I was using standard USB sticks, but recently had a bad experience with a rubbish Kingston one.

Nokia 6110, 6210, 6234, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, Huawei Ideos X5 (Windows Mobile), Samsung Galaxy SIII, LG G4, OnePlus 5, iPhone Xs Max (briefly), S21 Ultra. And I thought I hadn't had many phones - but the first one around 1997.
