Hi all.,

I am looking at getting a new Raspberry Pi as my RP2 is running like a dog when using kodi. Getting a lot of buffering, so thinking a new higher spec RP will be better.

Where is a good place to get on from? PBTech?

Any recommendation?

Cheers in advance

Honestly, if you're not doing anything else with it - a Mi Box S is the way to go. small, has a remote, just works.

Cheers - N

PBtech have them for $130... You can get them off Aliexpress for about $90 landed I think or amazon for about $100ish. Make sure to get the legit Xiomi S version (4K)

I just ordered one for a second TV instead of a Shield (which is the best but I can't justify the extra $$$ since all I am going to do is use Kodi and Netflix on it)

Cheers - N

I bought my Mi Box S from the official Xiaomi Store on AliExpress. It doesn’t come with a NZ/AU power supply unit but a US PSU with a US to NZ pin adapter. Works fine here, but if you want a proper NZ power supply you’ll need to buy the Mi Box locally or buy your own NZ PSU.

I also bought the Ugreen USB to Ethernet adapter to avoid using WiFi. I’m a beta tester of Android TV 9.0 for the device. The chromecast ability is great for when an app isn’t available on Android TV but is available on a smart phone.

Overall it’s good value for money,

The Fire TVs are also very good Kodi devices, better than the Mi Boxes. There are plenty of YouTube reviews around.

I got my Mi Box S from PB Tech for $130, figured it wasn't worth the wait from outside NZ. Works great for Kodi, Netflix, Disney, etc. R.Pi has been relegated to a drawer, to be repurposed at some point. I still use one R.Pi in another room for Kodi, but it doesn't do Netflix etc so may be ditched at some point as well.
