I have just received an Eaton 5S850 and just cut the battery caution tape that secures the box when I noticed the battery was manufactured June 2021 with a recharge by of March 2022.

This is for personal/residential use.

Should I be asking for a replacement?

The following PDF indicates the UPS and battery has a 2 year warranty: Eaton 5 Series UPS Overview Brochure ANZ

I try to avoid waste, so if it were mine I'd be asking the retailer for a 20% store credit (if I was confident of being able to use it) as it can be reasonably assumed the battery life has suffered as a result. If they didn't play ball, then I would be asking them for a replacement.

The problem I see with that is the warranty surely only covers the proper care and use if the battery, which would not apply here.

I found mention that you should not use the UPS if it's past the recharge date and to contact your service rep. But that was due a higher spec'ed series.

@rscole86 what did you decide in the end and how did you get on?

I spoke with Eaton, who assured me that it would have been recharged and that I would be covered under warranty.
The battery level was showing as full when I first plugged it in which was reassuring.
