Perhaps a proxy configuration?

Is your antivirus up to date?  I would do a virus scan and a spyware scan.

Often viruses will hijack any browser sessions, but will leave ping unaffected.  The fact ping is working shows it isn't a DNS issue.

Yip, just done spyware and anti virus, found a lot but removed them, done a reboot no good.

I can not connect to 192.168.1.1 either :-) I wonder if it's hidden firewall or something, your right it's not a DNS issue but what the heck is it

Some software such as AVG come with a built-in firewall and it will default to the restricted mode upon installation, preventing Internet access. I would check your software configuration for all security software around this PC.
