I am after some help, I have searched google. and followed instructions from sites and nothing is working.  I have tried the following programs:

SuperAnti-Spyware
MV RegClean
CCleaner
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

the following is the popup box i get from McAfee on startup:

McAfee has detected an infected file that cannot be quarantined.  We recommend that you restart and scan your computer now.

About this Virus
Detected: W32/Patcher (virus)
Location: C:\Windows\system32\SENS.DLL

We restart and scan, but it doesnt fix the problem, and its constantly popping up.  I have read that this is not a real virus, but the box keeps popping up and driving me nuts!!  any suggestions on how to fix this would be awesome.

Hi,

are you using XP or Vista?

In XP, goto "Run safe mode with command line prompt
then go:
Del C:\windows\system32\sens.dll

Then restart the PC with the WinXp disc in
run the setup, then choose Start Windows Setup(don't choose repair yet)
It'll ask where you want to install windows too after runnning through the usual stuff, chose the same directory
then it'll ask if you want to repair that installation, say yes :)
it'll take about 20 min

then hopefully when you restart, it'll be back to normal, re run a virus scan just to make sure

If in Vista
restart PC, pop Vista disc in
choose last repair/restore point, forget what it actually says, but it'll run through trying to bring it back to where it went wrong, you might lose some files/programs but it shoudl clear the virus

the machine is XP. I tried booting into safe mode by tapping F8, but it doesnt work. I can get into Safemode with msconfig, but that doesnt include a command line.

Use FileASSASSIN, which is included as part of malwareBytes. You select the file and on reboot it will murder the file before Windows locks it.

A quick google turns up "sens.dll is a library that contains functions used for System Event Notification Service (SENS)." I'd download a fresh copy and then kill your one off and replace it with the clean version... Maybe make a bootable flash drive beforehand so if windows fails to boot after it's deleted you still have access to the machine to replace the file...

Can you upload the sens.dll file (to rapidshare.com or similar)? I'll take a look at it to see if it's really infected or not.

Meanwhile, if you have your XP setup CD lying around, you could restore corrupt/system files using the command: SFC /SCANNOW in the command prompt (cmd).

hey thanks, but we got it sorted, McAfee got back to us and sent us about 3 pages of stuff to do, and its fixed. had to download a different scanner from them, specifically designed for the error.
