I am considering using a online backup service to backup my desktop (XP). I guess I would need about 20gb and would prefer a NZ supplier.

Anyone have any recommendations or experience of local suppliers? Would you store confidential type data on a service like this?

There's Datalock (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=7994). I personally use Mozy on my desktops and Mozy Pro on my servers.

Thanks, Mozy looks pretty good.

I can highly recommend Datalock.
Although not sure if they are currently doing "home" users as such.
You would need to contact one of their partners to sign up I think.

Another New Zealand option is http://www.databack.co.nz/.
