I have just built my first pc but am haveing a problem with blue screen when pc is worked harderthnqn general use ie playing a game. Now it won't get past windows loading screen unless I only have one stck of ram in. I have done memory test on each stick with only one stick in machine and they both pass on there own but if both sticks are in it gets about 10 percent done the pc restarts. Parts I have used to build are

CPU Q8400 core 2 quad 2.66

moboard gigabyte ep45t-ud3lr

psu enermax elt620awt-Eco 620watt

gfx card hd4870

ram 2x 2gb ddr3 apacer pc3-10600 cl9 p/n au02gfa33c9nbgc

any suggestions of what I should do next would be great?

edit: I had wrong gfx card writen in specs above

When testing the ram on their own, were they always in slot one? Or did you test them individually in different slots?

Individually in different slots but only one was physically in at a time

Are you running it in Dual Channel mode? IE in both yellow slots or both orange slots?

Have tryed in dual channel mode won't start up. And in normal it worked for a while then blue screen once system was worked harder

Sounds like you're at the point where you need to test the ram in another board or test other ram in this board and then RMA (return) whichever part is at fault (mobo or ram).

Have taken pc into shop to be looked at they have said ram is hard to push in and i might not have been fitted in properly then tested it and said its ok. Started playing world in conflict ran for about ten minutes fine no slowdowns in frame rate of hickups then froze with no blue screen, holding power button or pressing restart did nothing so had to switch off at psu. Windows restarted fine so i tryed playing company of heros same thing ran for 10 minutes then blue screen and i restarted frustrated by now. so i put in disc i have been using to test ram with MemTest-86 v3.5 on it got to about 10 percent tested and locked up and restarted. is this memory tester usually reliable? Can any one recommend a good pc shop to take it to in Dunedin? as i dont want to just go buy some more ddr3 and chuck it in to see if it fixs problem or take it back to same shop and get told for $50 my ram is hard to fit. Which is correct its very stiff to push in but its supposedly fitted correctly now by shop. Im sure i had it correctly any way. Or should i take it back to same shop as faults like this can be tricky to track down?

Hmmm, check the ram voltage settings and required latency settings. Go into bios, then check memory settings and voltage match up with the factory settings. i had the same issues here with my DDR2, I was running at 1.7v when they needed 2.1v, constant lockups and reboots. I was pulling my hair out and then boom changed the memory latency/voltage and it ran fine.

ouch, lock up in Memtest is bad, I use Memtest at work when the Dell diags fail and it usually always pics up a fault. Definitely could be a memory fault. You should try it in any friends PCs, although I guess DDR3 is still not too common at the moment.

If it's not memory, it'll be the onboard memory controller, which would mean RMAing the motherboard

Freeze with no blue screen could well be a RAM fault. I had similar experiences with a pair of DDR2. Put in a new identical pair & the problems disappeared. Fortunately I had a spare set of RAM on hand. Original were replaced under warrenty without dispute.

Surely worth grabbing some RAM from somewhere to test. A lot less hassle than taking into a shop to get checked.

I dont know any one with ddr3 . I live in Dunedin Can any one help? I can pay the favor back with a perk of some sort im a auto electriction.

any way i checked voltage to ram it's set to auto and 1.5v and the termination voltage is .750v.
ram specs on apacer web site were 1.5v for voltage and cl9-9-9 im not sure what that is.

Just left memory test running on pc with one of the sticks of ram in and it came up with this error but i dont know what it means. any one got any ideas?

I think i may have found somthing if anyones still watching this. This is a screen shot of easy tune 6 app that came with mother board thats is for easy overclocking it just runs in the back ground and i havent changed any settings so i asume every thing should be running at standard settings. I was just playing around and notised the ram voltage is 1.7v would this make ddr3 unstable? when i check it in bios it says its at 1.5 volts. But this app doesnt run till windows has started.

I doubt 0.2v difference would make much difference, it's probably within the margin of error for the sensor.

If you read about test 5 in the memtest docs it basically says that test can't be used to isolate where the problem is (ie in ram module 1 etc).

So you are still stuck at trying to figure out which it is.

I think I have worked out Which one it is. Was playing a game and with in 5 minuts I got a blue screen. So I swapped sticks and play for an hour with no problems bit will keep testing to confirm
