Hi,

Images for Napier are dated 2005. Using GE 5 on a PC.

Various discussion on the web suggests that Google does not update various images because of cloud and other issues.

However, I set up mapping on my Nokia phone recently and found the satellite images very up to date.

Does Nokia have its own satellite?
Does GE give preference to paying customers for most recent images?

Cheers

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

Napier in Google Maps shows as 2010 imagery, I'm not completly sure if this is correct tho.
There is usually a delay between Google Maps imagery and Google Earth. Maps is always updated first.

Cheers,
Joseph.

Google maps shows copyright 2010, etc.
The satellite images are quite a few years old.
I would guess at 5 years old, the same as for Google Earth.
GE shows Imagery date 11 Jan 2005 for Napier.

Cheers

Aah yes, I didn't actually check whether the Maps and Earth imagery was different.
Annoying how Earth tells yet the imaging date, but Maps doesn't.

Perhaps the Nokia services uses Bing maps?
The photography here is different, but the date is not specified.

Cheers,
Joseph

The Bing maps for Whakatane are older than Google's. Obviously I don't know whether that's the same for Napier.

Nokia (as with Google) uses a variety of services, mainly Navteq (which Nokia owns) and Digital Globe.
