I have a Maxtor diamondmax plus 9 120 GB hard drive.  I was using a ide to usb adapter to try to get my files off of it.  When I connected the power to it i heard a big pop and could see where the board blew.  I have since replaced the board and I am still not able to view the contents on the drive, its like the drive has power but it doesn't.  The board does work because it feels warm when connected and I can hear the drive clicking.  Is there anything else I can do to try to get my data off of the drive?  Thank you in advance for your input and advice.

I highly recommend to always have data in 2 locations.
Sounds like the motor may have blown , which may have caused the reading arm to scratch the platters.
If the platters are ok, id recommend taking it to a shop than can put them in a case and attempt to try recover ur data

gz ftw

Due to drive specific information, replacing the controller board generally wont work. Your best bet is to try a data recovery place like www.datalab.co.nz. They cost a small fortune though.

the circuit board I got was specific for my hard drive all the codes match.  the board is getting power because it gets warm.  But you can't hear the heads come on when there is power and the computer doesn't show the drive at all.  I posted to try to get some other ideas as to how to get the data off without taking it some where because that can get pretty expensive.  I wasn't sure if there was anything internally that I could do to get it work.  But thank you all for the input.  It is much appreciated and if you all have any other ideas please let me know.  Thanks again!
