I'd advise you go take a look at the "Sandy Bridge" reviews on the various hardware sites (anandtech, tomshardware, hardocp, pcper etc).

2nd generation core series using socket 1155 (instead of 1156) ie: i7 2600k, core i5 2500k, i5 2400k etc coming out this month.

Basically the new i5 2500k is cheaper and faster than the i7 870.

Edit: Computer Lounge and Playtech have pricing up already too

Get an optical drive too. Will make OS and software installation a cinch, and enable the playback of audio CDs and DVDs.

What sort of budget are you working with here?
What will use the computer for primarily, gaming, video rendering, server , htpc, other?  Will you be overclocking?
This would really help me to form a suggestion.

In any case listen to Ragnor and check out the new SB procs, or at least wait till they hit the market here and see where the price/performance sweet spot lies.

The price of the current i7/i5/i3's will come down as the SB equivalents replace them that is given, but Im not sure how much.

Sandy Bridge cpu's and motherboards should be available from next week in NZ, the official on sale date is the 9th I believe.

@thorax my original budget was 1500 excluding monitors, but obviously it will be a bit over. Under 2000 for now I guess

@thorax the pc will be used primarily for work: some heavy programming with localhost server, adobe creative suite designing work, and some gaming like cod :D

I thought that was around the normal operating temperature of those cards and they are supposed to be reliable up till 105C.
