I have had a few problems with compatibility and so on from my OEM DVD drive.

I would like to install a new one in the second slot on my Mac Pro workstation, ideally one with Lightscribe technology.

Can anyone recommend one? I can find some from Asus but they all seem to require Windows.?

I don't think you will find many that "Support" OSX as typically you cannot just buy PC parts for them.

Though I would assume one would just plug and play the same way as any other drive in a mac.

I ordered an LG multi-format (up to 22x) from OWC in the US. Has Lightscribe and with 30 blank Verbatim Lightscribe DVD's it cost me $106 plus shipping.

It should handle any format (+/- etc) which will be a relief - and being about 4 years newer than the one in my Mac Pro hopefully will be faster and more reliable too.

So, my new LG Super Multi Lightscribe drive arrived from OWC in the USA today.

Cost US$32.99!

Also I ordered a 30 pack of single layer Verbatim DVD-R Lightscribe discs which cost US$27.99. OWC also included a free copy of Disc Label which is worth around another $30.

Isn't it astonishing just how cheap things in the US are compared to here?

Anyway, I installed the drive in the spare optical drive slot in about 20 minutes or so and it worked first go - Apple even include the 4 spare mounting screws in storage holes in the optical drive tray, which is nice.

I have fed DVD+, DVD-, CD-R and Dual Layer discs through and it burns them all without batting an eyelid. Yay!

So my recommended solution to anyone of the many many people who get this issue is to buy a newer drive if yours is a few years old. Worked for me, so far at least.
