I have a problem with my outlook 2010 install, has been working fine for a long time, but within the last month i can no longer send emails with attachments. everything else works normally. the attachments can be as small as 60kb and they will not send, just comes back with an unknown error.

I just installed thunder bird on a different PC, and could successfully send emails with attachments with the same account settings

Looks like a common issue as a lot of people report this same error. I don't want to lose all my emails and contacts, is there a way I can delete my account and/or database and create a new one without losing everything as I think that's what the issue may be? My mail database is only 150mb.

Change of anti virus that might be blocking them?

I am using avast antivirus, I have been using that for years, but i did disable it for an hour and tried again and the email still failed to send (even sending from me to myself)

error I get is: 0x800CCC61

which I believe is an SMTP unknown error.

If an anti virus is corrupt it may be stoping it, and when it is disabling it may not stop the problem, try uninstalling it then test your outlook. If that doesnt work you can save all your emails and contacts but give this a try first

Ok installed thunder bird on the same PC, it works for sending attachments, this is without touching anything.

so its definitely isolated to being an outlook issue.

Might try and back all the data up then reinstall the software.

easiest way, just copy the pst file and there should be no problems
