I recently finished my first build. Everything is good except when I try to shut down, windows goes through the shut down process but the fans remain on. Case fans, CPU fan and GPU fans. It is starting to bug me and I would really appreciate some help.

I am running:

Gigabyte GA-X68XP-UD4
i5 2500K
8gb Vengence
1tb WD Balck
Corsair AX750
Antec 1200
Windows 7 HP 64 bit.

The hard drive does stop however, the power led remains on??

Silly question but double check you are shutting down not going into standby or hibernating

Right click on the start menu > properties > start menu tab > Power button action

I did check this - could the power switch have anything to do with it? Or maybe a short?

I am trying to sort this out myself before I have to get someone to look at it.

Also check in the bios for an option controlling what the power button does.

When you turn it back on does it go though the full bios post or is Windows just there waiting?

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, it does show the BIOS screen when I turn it on.

I have filled out a form on the Gigabyte website to see if they can help.

This happened to me everytime I do a fresh install of Win 7 on my computer. The fix that works for me is this:

"Windows Start Button" >> Control Panel >> Hardware and Sound >> Device Manager >> IEEE1394 Bus host controller (expand) >> double click "VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" (this could be different on your machine, not sure) >> Click on "Power Management" tab >> Check the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" >> click "OK".

Hopefully this will solve the problem. :)

Tried this and unfortunately no help, thanks though!

Could it possibly be a short within the case?

Running it without the case (or elevating it on insulators within the case) could answer that question.

Are there any fan control options in the bios you can change to see if any other settings make a difference?

How do I elevate it within the case? I would rather avoid taking everything out of the case but I will if I have to.

I don't see any obviouse controls in the BIOS. Interestingly, the cpu and gpu are obviously connected to the motherboard, but the case fans are connected to the PSU.

Page 55 & 56. See if setting smart fan control 'disabled' makes any difference.

Yeah, I blinked at that also. But it is not uncommon for large aftermarket case fans is it?
