I have a custom program running on a desktop machine that communicates with a modem, with a USB to serial port cable.

Randomly, I'll get this error: Access to the port 'COM9' is denied.

I thought it was the user unplugging or moving the cable but it's now securely fixed and still keeps happening.  Is there an option in XP that I need to set/unset?

Checking in Device Manager, is that the correct port for the modem?
