And so it begins... The first Windows Phone 8 being shown around is the Samsung ATIV S.

... 8.7mm brushed aluminum chassis is a huge 4.8” HD Super AMOLED display made from Corning Gorilla Glass 2 (read: tough to break, but still light)and a rundown of killer specs: 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of onboard RAM, and an 8MP autofocus rear camera and 1.9MP front-facing camera. You’ll have the choice of two storage capacities – 16GB or 32GB – and both models have a MicroSD slot for expanded storage. Backing all of this up is a massive 2300mAh battery

I can't say it's a particularly beautiful handset though:

Like the fact that it's brushed aluminum and has NFC built in. Can't wait for Nokia's event next week.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I like that Samsung brought good hardware to the table, and the 2300mA battery is quite impressive. Really looking forward to Nokia's announcement!

lumia 10000? nah too many numbers
lumia 850, 950, not enough differentiation in my opinion

not lumia - something else? Waste of several million imo.

I predict a Lumia 900 with better screen, dual core, NFC, 32GB and possible an SD slot?

It almost looks like the GS3 with very similar specs as well apart from the processor and battery..

But overall.. the phone looks really good.. now just have to wait and watch how it performs against its competitors GS3 & (new) IPhone

Finally a top end phone from samsung that doesnt look/feel cheap (i assume) and plasticy in the hand. The galaxy range have been terrible for this. I like it.

freitasm: I can't say it's a particularly beautiful handset though

Comparing it against the HTC handsets makes it look a little ... industrial

I do like Samsung but in the Windows Phone arena I think I'm on the HTC train.

They're made by Nokia, that's enough for me to pass them by.

Bad experience with one of their "top of the line" devices
Good experiences with HTC & Samsung devices

Dropped Nokia as a handset option and have never looked back.

My first few phones were Nokia and all were good enough to stick around with them until I switched to windows mobile for application development and then switched to Android.. But never had a nokia that failed me..

May I ask which nokia gave you the bad experience

I've used HTC, Samsung and Nokia WP7 phones. As far as I'm concerned, the Samsung Omnia W is way better bang for your buck than the Nokia Lumia 800, except for one thing - Nokia Drive. However, my HTC Trophy's wifi aerial is significantly better than the one in the Samsung and the Nokia.

Which doesn't necessarily say anything about the WP8 phones coming up from them. But reinforces that you need to pay attention to actual performance as well as included apps, and apply this to what you actually want your phone for. If you were more interested in Skyping than turn-by-turn navigation, the Omnia beats the Lumia hands-down (no front camera on the Nokia).

I can't wait until Samsung innovates and designs their own operating software... just quietly.
