Hi there,

Can anyone help me with memory card issues with my Apache? I bought a 2gb 80x mini SD off trademe for it - which the guy said would be compatible (& he hasnt had any complaints from previous buyers). But MINE is acting very strange - sometimes it is installed as normal ('storage device' in file explorer) and then the next thing i know its GONE. Says that NO device is installed. There is no consistency to when it will appear. When it does, I can access everything on it just fine - although when I play music its kinda pauses occasionally (why is that?).

What could be causing this? Is it due to the card (in which case he has offered me a refund or replacement) incompatibility (refund) or a faulty Apache? I really love my new toy but this is frustratin the hell outa me.

Would appreciate your advice,

Cheers :O)

Trademe..... dumping ground for dud products...... nuff said. Was it any particular brand?
or auction number?

I'd say it's the card but clean the card contacts firmly with a dry cotton bud, even though the gold bits might look clean it might not be.

Make sure you are running the latest version of the ROM for the Apache. Telecom New Zealand has released only one so far, so if you haven't updated it yet, do it.

Next make sure you have plenty of battery juicew left. The external card uses some power and in low battery situations the card drive stops and the driver is unloaded from memory.

Hi, thanks for the advice! I cleaned the gold bits, and also updated my Apache through the Telecom website. But still no luck. (I like the upgrade, however, when i reinstalled and tried to activate my Microsoft Reader again to read my ebooks, it says im running an older version of Pocket PC and cant activate it. Have emailed microsoft so hopefully they can help!)

When in the 'System' 'About' screen, it says that the expansion slot is in use, but still no luck with the 'memory' 'storage device' screen. Sayin not installed. It does come up sometimes, but is still not stable... Also it does this when i have full battery, or 80%, so no cigar on that idea either, im afraid. The card is new, from a guy who sells alot of them. Its a 'TEKQ' 'Ultra 80x' with lifetime warranty. What do you guys think i should do next? Try a smaller/slower card? Can anyone else tell me if they have had no probs running a 2gb 80x mini sd card on their Apache? If so, maybe i need to send it away to get fixed or something. Rather not though... Any more ideas i could try first?

Thanks for your suggestions :O)

I would bet on the card being faulty. I actually never came across ths brand before. I always buy my cards from www.flashcards.co.nz and they are great. Be aware that low quality flash memory can cause this kind of problems you described. If you can't buy another card to test on your Apache, try using this card on another device. If the problem persists, it's the card.

Thanks for that - i forgot to mention that i tried it in my camera, which worked with no problems... Took a look at that website tho, and i think ill buy one that they recommend for the Apache. Try that & just go for the refund for the other card. If the new one doesnt work either, then would the best thing to do be take it down to a Telecom mobile shop?

Cheers

If you get a second card from another brand and it won't work on your device, then yes take it to Telecom NZ (or retailer) for repair or exchange (whatever is the policy).
