Hi,

Sorry i wasn't sure if should post this in the phone area/mp3/smart device etc so apologies if this isn't the correct place!

Basically I've been given a phone but it's language is currently set to korean (?) although the buttons are in english. I've spent ages looking online but can't find a manual to find out how to change the language to english. There seem to be many devices in China/Asia which are called U8810 but are of differing makes and models (from cellphones to smart phones). There's no obvious manufacturer name on the phone.

I've found this page which has a phone which looks similar but isn't quite it
http://cgi.ebay.com.cn/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130090438684&fromMakeTrack=true#ebayphotohosting. I have photos (front of phone and behind battery) which I can send to anyone if they think they can help!

Here is the information I could find from the actual phone:

On the outside of phone it just says:

pocket pc

mp4 player

High resolution digital phone F=4.7mm 1 : 2.8

2.0Mega pixels Auto focus

Behind the battery it has the following:

CECT U8810

IMEI ............

3.7V 650mAh

4.2V

GB/T 18287-2000

If anyone could advise me on how to change the language would be really appreciated (or where i can get a user manual)!!! I don't have net access in the weekend, only at work, so apologies if my replies may be a bit delayed.

cheers

emily

Welcome to Geekzone. It is hard to change this because the OS is licensed to the manufacturers and distributed on the device - and it's not mulilingual. So if you want an English version (assuming one is available) you have to source it from the manufacturer.

Also you can't burn the ROM from another device because Pocket PCs have specific drivers depending on model, manufacturer, etc...

hi,

thanks for that. sorry this may sound like a really stupid question but any idea who the manufacturer may be or where on the device i could find it - would CECT be the manufacturer or is that denoting the type of network (ie china)? Seems od that the buttons are in english if it's not multilingual.

Apologies for my total ignorance and thanks muchly for your help!

I haven't heard of this brand before, but I found that http://shop.epower.co.nz sells CECT in New Zealand. You could contact them and ask about this?

Hi Dumbolina,

I just read your response, so did you get an english manual from the website or just the instructions to convert the menus in english?

I bought the phone from overseas from HK to UK and now trying to figure out how to use -

look forward to your response

Cheester

Hi,

I received the phone as a gift recently, but the phone manual is written in Chinese.

I will ask around for someone to decypher it. ha ha...but until then, it will still be mysterious to me.

Great phone, excellent AIR message module. Wave your hands, and your message shows up in MID AIR.

Unfortunately, only a maximum of 5 characters, or the other selections are chinese characters at that.

Pros :

AIR Message for parties
Beautiful screen quality (262K)
User friendly (with the right language of course)
Small, thin and cute

Cons :

No bluetooth, No IrDA, No WiFi, No Nuts.
2.0Mbpx Camera but on it's screen shot point, very BLUR.
Only available in Black or White. (I gotta myself the whiteeee one)

Main Con :

Where the heck to find a replacement charger/data cable should I need one some day in the future ?

Anyway, that is about all. But in general, cool device and excellent MP4 playback~! Yeah~!

For those who need help with MP4 and WMV part, please let me know and I will recommend the correct software.

I use FLV to iPod converter so that I can download YouTube files convert it to play in my phone AND pda. Phone meaning my SE W850i.

Good luck and have fun~!

DK

Edit : Added note

Phone is excellent for one thing, but lacking another thing.

Pro : Transflash card with support for up to 1Gb and also a 60Mb built in capability.
Con : No adaptor for the transflash to convert to SD, so...you will have to go buy one yourself.

Hiya,

What's the AIR message module?!? what does it come under in the menu?

For a charger i've just used a nokia charger and split the positive and negative and just place them against the relating power connections to charge it - not quite the right amps but charges it ok so no complaints :)

as far as a data cable goes it's got a mini usb B (? off top of my head) which i haven't found anyone in nz who sells them but have seen adaptors in oz - next on the list of things to get....

Check the lights to the right of the module.
When used the setting - MENU -> SYSTEM -> AIR SIGN -> WAVE MESSAGE

You can choose from FIXED Messages, Custom Messages or Custom Graphic Messages.
Choose a FIXED Message and select the first option, whilst the message is running, you must turn the module facing the red lights to you. Now, move the message rapidly from side to side (Your view. That would be Back and Forth for the module itself)

You will then see something really cool.

The USB Charger should have come with the module. How could you buy a phone or any electronic device at that without a charger?

If you cannot find one, please locate a dealer that can sell to you a MULTI FUNCTION GENERIC PHONE BATTERY CHARGER.
Please message me if you want to see a picture of one. It shouldn't cost more than about $10.

It is not a USB B, but actually, a specific plug made for all CECT phone/mp4/pda/electronic device. You can order them from most of the China websites. BUT My recommendation would be for you to return to the shop which you bought your phone and DEMAND a charger (an original charger comes in 2 parts. A PDA-USB data cable and a USB to DC Adaptor)

It should also come with headphones and a proper box with a magnetic lid. Item carries a 3 year warranty from China Manufacturer CECT.

They also have many other products available, and the products are using similar cables and chargers.

I hope this has helped you and best of luck with your unit.
