I have a Ipaq 3765 and Windows 2000 Pro. It originally worked just
fine and never had any problem with it up to now. When I try to sync it
I get the message "Attention Required" by Notes, Contacts, Tasks and
it says Notes not installed. Than it says that it can't sync these items. It will sync my favorites. I have uninstalled and re installed MS ActiveSync and that didn't help. I
have deleted and created a new Partnership and that didn't help. I
have done a soft reset and that didn't help. Does anyone have an
suggestions on how I can fix this problem. MS ActiveSync and the IPAQ
work just fine on another computer with Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated and is really needed since I tried everything I can think of. Thanks

Is this syncing to a local .pst file? Could it be corrupted? When you delete the partnership you might want to delete the folder that contains the information on your computer. For example C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles will have subfolder for each Pocket PC you have partnered with this computer (user your user name on that computer instead of Administrator).

Other than this, reinstall the latest ActiveSync (currently 3.7.1 with a new build deployed last week) and last resotr doing a hard reset?

Thanks for the reply. Your question in regard to what I am synching to: It is syncing to Outlook and I don't know if it syncs to a pst file. I have an outlook pst file on this computer is all I can say. If I do a hard reset what will I lose? Is there a way to backup what I have at this time or is that process blocked by attention required? I haven't deleted the folder so I can try that and install 3.70. Is there a possibility that the problem is MS Outlook? If so should I reinstall that and if so should I uninstall that and than reinstall it? Also I get the message that Notes aren't installed and I do have it in Outlook and on the handheld. I hope this information helps.
Thanks

If you're syncing with Outlook then this .pst file is in use. In your Outlook folder on Program Files you'll find a program to check and repair .pst files. I can't remember the name now but will find later. You can try running that.

Doing a hard reset will erase all content on your device, and you'll have to reinstall all programs that you have installed after buying it. It's a very last thing to try, and make sure you have a copy of you contacts (they should be on your .pst). Also when deleting a partnership DON'T DELETE the sync folder from your computer!

Ok here is what I did and the results. I opened Outlook and under Help I found a Detect and Repair. So I ran that as you suggested. Than I downloaded a new copy of Active Sync and installed it and followed the on screen directions. Some of the options I wasn't sure of but here is what I did. I deleted the old partnership. I asked it to form a partnership between the device and the computer and also with a second computer. I told it to combine the items on the Handheld with the items on the computer whatever that means? It also said some of the items haven't been sync before. Also outlook want to archive files and I said no? I also deleted the profile file as you suggested. Than it all happened the problem was gone. All I can say is thanks. I have some questions that I listed above and one more. When you do a hard reset I assume it doesn't remove the OS? Can the OS be removed or replaced or fixed if ever needed? That's it and I really appreciate your help and I tried to get help from all over and no one but you could fix the problem which from the forums I see that activesync is a problem and no one new how to fix it. Thanks ever so much.

Good stuff!

Answering your question about the hard reset, it's used when you want to erase everything and make the device like it was when it came out of the box. It'll not erase the OS, but reinitialise the device. You'll need all the programs installed since you bought the device of course.

Doing a hard reset will "reinstall" the OS...
