How can I erase my iPAQ and start over? I had to reinstall my software on my laptop a coule of weeks ago, and then Ihad to choose a different user name for it. Now my Excell files are not syncing, but everything else does. Do I need to erase it and then sync again?

Hmmm. Reinstalling the laptop software shouldn't impact on the iPAQ synchronisation. When performing ActiveSync first after the reinstall it probably asked for Standard or Guest partnership, right?

At this time, if you select Standard, it should have created a folder on My Documents called [iPAQ name] My Documents. This is the folder the synchronises your files between laptop and Pocket PC.

If you have changed the Pocket PC name since, then another folder will be there. Perhaps the files you're working on are not in the correct sync folder on your computer?

They are in the exact same file as before, I haven't moved them. When I reinstalled the sw I was asked for a name. I entered the one I had before, and was told it already existed. I need to get it back to way it was.

I deleted my Excel files on the iPAQ and synced. They are still not on it but are in the files on my laptop

Right. You can try this:

  • Delete the partnership on ActiveSync. When asked don't delete the My Documents folder. It's your only copy!
  • Open Explorer and delete the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\[iPAQ name]
  • Fix the name on the iPAQ to match the original name
  • Place the iPAQ in the cradle and create a new partnership

Tap Start, Settings. Change to System tab and tap the About icon. Then change to Device ID. The Device name is the one used on ActiveSync and should match the name on your Documents folder.

    Back to the original question.
How to reset my Ipaq 2210.
I had to give my Ipaq away to get it repaired and would have like to reset it before and remove my files? How?
I got a new Ipaq instead and my files on old one can be accessed by the techs at HP?

To hard reset the iPAQ turn the device on and remove any memory card. Press and keep pressed the outermost right and left buttons and then press and hold the soft reset button. Yes you'll use both hands! Wait until the screen fades completely out and wait 30 seconds. Place the device in the cradle and it should come back fresh. You'll have to manually delete the iPAQ File Store.
