Hi

I have a question about HSDPA and using it in conjunction with my Nokia N95. Is HSDPA automatically used when I am browsing Vodafone Live etc using the browser on my phone? It doesnt appear to be any faster than other non-HSDPA capable phone. I am wondering if HSDPA is only used if I use the phone as a modem for my PC to get a connection to the Internet. I have "High speed packet access" set to "Enabled" in the packet data settings under Tools on the phone.

You don't need HSDPA to browse Vodafone Live (the pages are so small)

If a Full music track is downloaded thats when HSDPA would work

HSDPA will be used automatically when browsing Vodafone Live! and other services providing you are in a HSDPA covered area. Remember that HSDPA is not available everywhere, in which case your phone will use WCDMA, and if not available then GPRS.

Thx for that - I thought that was the case. I have tried in 2 areas that have Vodafone 'broadband' coverage according to their coverage maps (one of which is Auckland CBD). I wonder why I dont notice any difference in loading pages on Vodafone Live? I wonder if HSDPA can be enabled on a customer/SIM basis and is only done if you subscribe to one of their data plans? - I am just using the casual data rates.

Johnr, are you absolutely really sure that all WCDMA sites are HSDPA? This is not what we are told.

Johnr is correct - all WCDMA sites are HSDPA, and have been for many months.

Good to know then. Next thing is if you are not getting HSDPA speeds then you are on GPRS (arghhhh) reception area.
