Hi:

Here's what I want to do - but my IT Manager won't let me do it. (or doens't know how to do it.) I want your help to go around him :)

>>>>>>I want to receive my e-mail (pushed to my Pocket PC mobile edition) as they arrive.

Simple enough - but my IT guy won't spend the money to get the "middleware" needed to do this. ( so he says he need it.) Since connecting to our corporate e-mail is not POP3, is a secure connection - only accessed through 128but encryption SSSL - ( I was told it I can't seem to connect using my devise through a browser. (nor Outlook Express via POP3). The only way I can connect is by pulling the e-mail down through a Browser - but this is slow as molasses. I want it pushed to my devise into an e-mail client - like Mobile Outlook.

So How do I do this?

One way I was thinking - was to find some web service which will auto log into my corporatre account via some web browser and then once it pulls the e-mail off, it pushes it to my POP3 Outlook Mobile client. But I don't know if this is possble.

Please help me. There must be a solution.

Cheers!

G

Push e-mail is accomplished by using a Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC Phone Edition or Smartphone device with a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.

With this infrastructure the server can use an e-mail to SMS gateway feature called Always up-to-date, and flag to your device when a new e-mail or appointment arrives. The device will then synchronise with the server, over-the-air, and you'll not even know - until you see the item updated.

I'm not aware of current public applications that would use this functionality. Also, giving a company access to your internal network could create a breach in the security perimeter defined by your IT folks. You'd be giving away to an unknow/untrusted company your access authentication/login information.

Now, if you're looking for a pull solution, where you initiate the sync from your device using any connection type (not necessarily OTA with a Phone Edition or Smartphone), then we'd need to know more about the architecture on your system. For example, the connection is via secure, but is it only webmail? There are some solutions that allow you to have access to a computer, over the internet. Perhaps from there you could access your work computer and then pull the messages from there?

Again, this kind of solution could introduce a risk factor that you have to manage.

Thanks -
But that won't work.

1. I don't have server admin rights
2. They are using Exchnage 2002 not 2003

Any more ideas?

Greg

why don't you just use a inbox rule to redirect or forward any mail coming into exchange to your mobile device?

by the way, there is no such thing as exchange 2002. there is only exchange 2000 and then the next jump is exchange 2003. i should know, i manage a exchange 2000 server and will be upgrading to 2003 soon.

Interesting to have an update on this thread... Since then i've posted an overview on lots of solutions for this problem. Have a look on this article, mainly on Smartner's Duality solution.
