I have a nokia 6600 and want to upgrade MulitMedia Card (MMC) from 32mb to either 128mb or 256mb. Can anyone recommend a brand of card which works good in nokia 6600, one which i can get local (nz).

I've heard that some cards don't work very good in this phone? but cannot be sure if that's the case?.

I tried a 64mb SD card in phone and it was a major squeeze!!! SD was a little thicker. After getting it in nothing happened and phone did not detect any media card - so i think i will not try another SD.

Much thanks for any info.

Mike

The Nokia phones support MMC only. In general all brands are good. I've noticed that some places (DSE) are really expensive, charging sometimes 50% or more than other outlets.

i read from another forum (i think it was nokia's dev forum) that nokia doesnt support more than 128mb MMC. so pay to check about with this... i don't use nokia no more (though they're my fav most friendly UI i ever had, always had been Nokia user, Series25-Series40-Series60)

Anyhow... hope you got the largest given size! :-)

I know SD card doesnt work because they're too thick to fit onto nokia's anyway... and in the nokia manual it has already said it only support MMC card, not SD card.

hehe.. but i don't use nokia now... (thought i love nokia, and wanted to get N6600... sadly i don't like how mrouter works and very buggy, and has bad outlook translation from outlook contact to nokia's. half the time the contact's elements are matched up properly, i used OPM too but just as buggy.... final straw of decision? get imate smartphone2 and natively support outlook contact's elements... no more fiddle with contacts elements mapping. hehehe life is so much easier with microsoft, do more with less...)

i buy most of my flash cards from either www.pp.co.nz, or www.ascent.co.nz
pp are usually cheaper, but ascent have a greater range and i find it easy to go in if i need a refund/exchange.

if you buy a MMC, and it doesn't work in your nokia you should get a refund from any reputable retailer.

What i have heard is big differences in read and write access speeds between the brands - sanDisk being the name that popups most often as being very slow.

i'm very happy with my sandisk MMCs, but i find my kodak is faster (but pricier)... Kingston cards have also seems faster but i haven't done any real bench marking.

maybe google will help you more.

Hi...yeah thanks for that info - i am in the process of returning the Kodak SD that they sent instead of the Kodak MMC i choose! they even said it was the correct one and there was a switch on the back of it that converts to MMC/SD LOL!!! after looking good and proper for all of 30 seconds i can safely say there is no such thing.

I sent it back to Ascent on tuesday but have still not heard anything?? maybe the invisisble switch on the back of it makes it dissappear if tripped?.

Anyway...i will get the Transcend 128mb MMC when (if) they credit my account. The Transcend has been confirmed to work so we shall see :)

Cheers for your input guys

i have a transcend 128Mb - and it's deadly slow. I purchased it from ascent.

most flash cards are actaully repackaged from other brandnames - there being only 3 major flash card makers - Sandisk, Toshiba, and .. i *think* philipps .. (someone correct me if i'm wrong)...

so the card you get could be repackaged anything...

i'm very pleased with Kingston brand from ascent - i have a 128MB in a 3650.
Kodak is faster, but you pay for the speed.

there's no guaruntee that the one you buy wil be the same as mine - but just get one and see.. you probably won't notice

i also use mine for playing divX movies on my TT pda .. so speed matters more
if you're just storing photos and MMS, then speed isn't so big an issue.

Hi Taniwha, i have a 128mb mmc card in phone now - it's a Apacer brand.
Seems to work really good, fast loading everything!. I just went to local store in Hamilton P.B Tech and got one sorted easy.

I'm still waiting to even hear from Ascent on that card i sent back to them.
I've e mailed at least 3 times....and phoned twice - all i get is useless information.
They S U C K!.

Anyway having more space in phone is great! :)

crickey... ascent aren't doing so well this time.
I've had good experiences and bad with ascent. - give them a little time cos of the long weekend, but if you don't hear back by Wednesday morning then phone and ask for Giri - he'll sort out nearly anything.

so, how much you pay for your 128Mb MMC?

That's right. I haven't had any problems with Ascent before, and in general received some fast replies.

Cool...i will give them a while to sort that out - i just wanted a fast reply so i could get a MMC, but i got a good one now so no rush lol.

The Apacer MMC was $109, this was cheaper than the one i ordered from Ascent so that's all good.

Hey this might be a little off the topic but i had a mate come over with a shiney new Sharp GX 30 - It seems to be a great pxt image phone but he can't put any videos into phone over 400 odd kb???. He's got a 256mb SD in it but it still wont play large video sizes?. Would this be limited by the phone?? he's guttered.
