hi, I m willing to buy a htc titan. but I'm so disappointed to see that the titan only have wm5. I own a 700wx right now, and wanna upgrade. my question is: what will happen if I flash a sprint wm6 rom(dcd, imcokeman, etc) into the titan?

will I ever be able to connect to telecom nz after I flash my rom to wm6??

will the new rom erase all the telecom setting?

coz I read a thread from geekzone in which there is one member who brick his titan bcoz he did something wrong with the radio rom. so, what is the radio rom mean?? where can I get that? telecom nz radio rom??

please somebody give me some advice on these questions, coz I'm really keen on titan.

regards.

Why not just get a Okta (HTC) Touch or Boss? Already has WM6. And they are very well priced.

for me personally, I m not interested in wm sp like the boss, and it has got a keyboard which is weird to me. yes I do interested in the touch, it is a very small pda I believe, but I just wonder if the lack of keyboard will frustrate my typing experience a lot. I'm using touchpal sip on my 700wx now, and it isn't a good experience when I wanna type complicated words and numbers. that's why I choose the titan, but it only have wm5. so disappointed about everything..... just wonder when will telecom ever release the touch dual like what sprint did.
could anybody give any advice on flashing the alltel or dcd wm6 rom into titan and the consequence?
regards.

lots of sprint mogul people reported that the skype 2.2 is not supported on titan. I just wanna ask u guys out there who already have a titan, is the skype working ok on titan? how is the call quality? I'm using the 2.2 skype on 700wx now, and the call quality is acceptable, although sometimes people in the other end can't hear me.
and is there any major issue on the titan, besides the ram issue?
thanks
regards

Do not flash any of those ROMs to the Titan as they will all overwrite the Telecom settings and there is no copy of them floating around.

What I did was to extract just the OS out of the ROM and install that. If you were to install the full ROM including the customised ones you would turn the Titan into an expensive paperweight.

Actually the Touch key pad is very nice. Go into a Telecom Store or Dealer and ask to have a look at one.

I own an HTC P3600i (Trinity) on Australian Vodafone. I do miss having a keyboard, but it hasn't worried me too much. I can happily use the little stylus that comes with it. Other people have purchased bluetooth keyboards, and have tried software solutions such as the SPB Full Screen Keyboard, and there is a port of the HTC Touch Dual on screen keyboard solution on the xda-developers forums.

My unit is a refresh of the Trinity and came with WM6. It also came with something called Network Manager that configures the settings for the phone automatically. I suspect it will work against Vodafone NZ after a brief look into the bands it supports, so it might be an option for you to purchase internationally, although you would be best to ask someone who has already done so to see how the solution works.

Cheers,
Pete.

I can confirm that before I upgraded to the Touch, that Skype would install and run fine, work for IM, and initiate or accept calls, but zero call audio. All other sounds work (connecting etc), but no incoming or outgoing audio.

:-(( ..... so disappointing to hear all these negative replies from u geeky guys..... maybe I will just stay with my lovely 700wx for now. since the skype doesn't work at all on titan and touch, no point for me to upgrade for now, coz skype is very important for me. and I can't install wm6 on titan either, coz it will brick the titan..... I live outside out of chch, no 3G coverage on vodafone, only telecom has 3G for my place, so I can't use gsm handsets :-(. anyway, thanks so much you guys.

Try reading carefully, I see you have posted the same questions on ppcgeeks and got the same answers as you are getting here.

For one, GSM phones are different to CDMA in which carriers have very specific settings. Overwriting one with another will leave you with a brick.

You can indeed use the Sprint and Alltel ROMs as I said earlier BUT you must remove the Radio etc so you are flashing the OS only. Even then there is a lot of work that must be done to them so that among other things you can get a data connection working (the original will be restored on every soft reset if you don't know how to change things).

To flash another ROM you will first need to replace the bootloader on the Titan, somethine that will void your warranty.

We aren't being negative, just making sure you are aware of everything. Undoubtably if you went ahead with it and something went wrong we would get that blame for it.

It can be done but it not for the faint of heart or those who are unable to accept the fact they may end up with a useless Titam at the end of it (not likely but it can happen if you don't do it exactly as instructed).
