What are your thoughts, purist? Would you buy a BerryDroid?

Specs are on par with 3GB RAM other Android devices with non removable battery. But the 4 rows!

It seems to be a slider like the old Torch 98xx series.

Would it succeed or would it be a flop!?

If it had a slider keyboard and on screen keyboard then best of both worlds.

I know a lot of people that still use older phones due to having hardware keyboards.
Plus sliding phones rock, and blackberry do good hardware.

Not recently though. My 2 variations of classic I have light bleeds. Double typing on two various passports I owned with a variety of light bleed as well. Hmmm

Oh my last blackberry was a z10 and it was a bloody nice phone (plus could run android apps).

Bummer if the hardware has gone downhill but with the amount of money they are losing i can see them going cheaper to get the price of build down.

Yeah the Z series were probably the nicest.

Anyway back to the slider, one side of me is excited about the prospects, the other side is quite sad knowing that BlackBerry as I know it will die eventually, just like WebOS

the question is not if it looks nice, or if hardware keyboards are cool

the question is would you buy one with your own money....

Well...... it's all speculations for now.

But .... there will be the hub, touch sensitive keyboard like the passport, social media and apps will be like any other Android powerhouse vs the BB10 offering of current (which is quite bad!).

So, yes, I would probably buy, but needs convincing on build quality for the price.

depends if they can update and patch faster than others for android.

Import things for a phone for me are

Battery life (i want it to last a day or 2 even if I do tend to charge each night).
Patches
Look and screen size (4.7" - 5.2") and hardware (Like over heating chips and the OEM's telling you to turn phones off when charging).
Apps

I don't really care to much about OS these days but I do like a phone where I can change the look and feel and this is why most of my phones are android based

I suspect it may be too quirky to sell well, unless people are finally getting bored of the same old form factor they have had for so many years now.

Hopefully this is not the beginning of the end for BB OS10, my Z10 and Passport have been pretty solid so far.
They are still pushing QNX everywhere though so it should be safe for now?

More articles, QNX is only there to stop the OS crashing the device, but the development of the OS itself has been pretty stagnant, since the last beta.

The only way I can see this successful if Blackberry can promise OS update/security similar/better to Nexus devices.

Heck I might even ditch Samsung for them!
