Greetings From A new N95 user,

ive been trying to find threads of what apps ppl use and what uses they now have with their n95

So to keep it short- post your replies in the following format so surfers can see at a glance-

What i use-

mIRGGI v0.5.1 = Irc (i use my home wlan access point as well as free usage hotspots, is simple and works well, is totally freeware)

msn live = msn chat ( i dont use icq or other chat apps so msn made sense over getting a multichat app)

salling clicker v3.5 = win media player/desktop mouse remote control ( i use wifi wlan to control my media when i veg in bed or am working around the yard)

everything else is default as im only new to adding apps ,,,,,

if you know of freeware that is handy to have,,,,,, post it here,,, im still looking for an ir remote app like psiloc's but freeware

You should probably take this over to the 3rd Edition software discussion for a look at what software others use.

In brief:

A couple of Symbian apps worth checking out that haven't already been mentioned.

Truphone offers excellent VOIP calls and until the end of February, calls to landlines in 40 countries including NZ are free.

Nokia Beta Labs have recently released the Nokia Audiobook manager. The PC-based software converts wave and MP3 files to the smaller AMR codec which is optimised for speech. The player that installs on your phone has audiobook specific features such as the ability to set bookmarks, selecting by chapter, and remembering your last place in the book. Really quite cool.

i too managed to get truphone working ,,,, will save me a bit of $$ shortly as a family member is going to australia and i will be calling them to organise all the goodies to get duty free....after feb 29th ....who knows....

i cant seem to get vox working,,,, i have gone to the website, signed up, created a profile, even uploaded a pic from my desktop, but cant get the vox client on my n95 to work... heres what im doing:

opening gallery>images& videos>opening an image> clicking sign in for online share(which automatically opens the online sharing services folder) selecting vox (it says: you need a user name and password for vox to proceed) i click> ok
it asks for username and password> i enter my vox account name (nexus_shadow) and my password that i use to sign in on the vox website....

it says : Authentication failed, check username and password

im connecting through my own wifi AP and have set this in the online services settings

can anyone help?

yeah i finally got rotateme to work.
loving the emTube!!! can even download and save the files into the phone and its like dvd light videos
fring is good for msn and skypes
truphone is osum! been calling thailand anychance i can get! me love u long time katie!
thats pretty much it at the moment oh and that other mapping gps program. i still havnt got the hang of it yet.
will try VOX later on. what is it anyway?

vox is a website/service that provides you with a online blog, a place to upload your pics (via your mobile or desktop pc)
when i signed up (free) it said i have 3gb of space per month to upload objects to... you can upload cellphone pics/movies and even make blog text entries, (although as stated earlier i have yet to get mine working :P) once set up correctly its supposed to be "one click easy"

ok i couldnt figure out what was wrong with my vox setup settings so i decided to fiddle around until i found a method that works... good thing vox is so versitile as on the website it tells what settings/address to use, so i fluked it, managed to setup my email and then made the vox "blog-entry-by email" an email contact, so whenever i want to post a pic/vid/blog entry i do it as an email...

works good so far i have already uploaded 6 video clips and 3 pics all from my cell :P while "vegging" on the sofa

if anyone wants to see just search for nexus shadow in the person search.

id be interested if anyone here wants to send me a link to theirs in pm or whatever :P

also while im here, what apps do you guys use to dl/ul files to/from your desktop pcs? i mean i know the home lan when setup is all youll ever need, but the app i use is called "miniserver" it is a 1mb exe that runs on your desktop from a directory you want shared( you manually add folders by dragging them into the app window, minimize the program to the system tray then whenever you want to access those folders/files on your phone you just open your web app and enter the ip addy that is reported to you on the exe window when you were setting it up on your desktop... i've only tested it using my wifi Access and can say it works fine, i grabbed a 6mb mp4 out of my media folder (where i keep all my previous n95 made videos/pics) and it only took a few seconds (i had enough time to press the menu button open the connections manager and then open my active data connections and check the speed of the download, which was about 400 or so kB/s) the file finished then opened in realplayer and gave me the option to save as if it were a download link..

the miniserver program is freeware. and only 1mb even though the software is basic and "no frills" it suits my needs and might be handy for anyone looking for a home wlan alternative
