After the daylight savings change over this weekend we found that we were unable to launch the Microsoft Band app on my phone or the Microsoft Health app on my wife's phone (she has a fear of updating apps!). When started, the app would show the title screen and the progress dots would start moving across the screen, but then the app would shutdown after about a second.
I checked with a colleague in the US who also has a Lumia 1020 and a Microsoft Band, but he had no problem starting the app. I tried all sorts of things to resolve the issue, but nothing worked until I looked at our phones' settings and discovered that under the date+time setting, the time zone was set to (UTC + 12:00) Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - Old. The Set time zone automatically setting was set to ON.
So I changed the Set time zone automatically setting to OFF and then changed the time zone to (UTC + 12:00) Auckland, Wellington and then tried starting the Microsoft Band/Health apps again and they worked perfectly.
If I change the Set time zone automatically setting to ON again, the time zone is reset to (UTC + 12:00) Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - Old.
I suspected that the problem may be with our phone service provider (2degrees), but then realised that I was using Wi-Fi for data, while my wife was using her mobile data. So I believe that the issue is within the OS itself.
Can anyone else with a Windows Phone 8.1 device please check to see what time zone their phone is set to? I guess it could be something specific to the Lumia 1020, but I think that would be unlikely.
Thanks,
David.
