I have a nice new Palm Zire 72 which I purchased a month ago. What a great PDA! Unfortunately, my new employer has a standardised (locked down) desktop environment so I am not able to, or permitted to, install Palm software or Hotsync. I don't disagree with their standardisation policy but I really want to continue to use my Zire.

The standardised desktop has activesync installed and I have been told I can use any PDA which will sync using activesync. I have been searching high and low through the internet for information which will tell me how to sync my Zire using activesync rather than hotsync, but haven't been able to find anything. There must be a solution (even a work around) for this.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It's not possible to use ActiveSync with your Palm OS based handheld, and the opposite is also true: it's not possible to use Hotsync with a Windows Mobile (Pocket or Smartphone) device.

Use Zlauncher and just put apps in the Palm/Launcher folder on the card. Zlauncher will show them as available. You can also run apps off the card directly with Zlauncher. I know POS 5 can do this but can't run apps located in folders other than Palm/Launcher.

Regarding hotsyncing, I had the same problem where I worked. A buddy was able to install POS desktop somehow on a laptop and then hotsync via infrared. I wasn't.
