I am one of the dying breed of physical keyboard aficionados, so super stoked by the final announcement of Blackberry KEYone (formerly Mercury) at MWC:

http://crackberry.com/tcl-communication-launches-all-new-blackberry-keyone-mobile-world-congress

USD 550, to launch in April.

Though I still don't quite understand how Blackberry can have such cool code names, then launch devices with such dopey production names.

Keen to know if any networks will pick it up officially, or whether it will be a parallel import only (though I appreciate anything will be speculation until official announcements are made). It's clearly targeting the business market so if (and its a big if) it does catch on, could be super lucrative. In a word of cookie cutter candy bar phones, if nothing else it's something a bit different.

I had a Q5 which I really liked, but I passed on the Priv. The KEYone looks interesting, but it's likely to be quite expensive here. Does it have the 3G/LTE bands for NZ?

I had a look a couple of days ago. Looked like it supported all the LTE bands used in NZ, but may (not sure I remember right) have been missing 2100 MHz 3G? But there will likely be multiple international versions.

I like the idea of a keyboard...

Does anyone know if it will come to NZ officially and when it will be released?

I'd love to give it a try to be honest. Loved my old BB.

I'm looking out for it and will certainly pick one up as long as it drops below $1000 NZD.

It made "the paper". I'm still hopeful one of the carriers will pick it up. If not, I will be beating a path to @NikT's door.

I do plan to range the KeyOne.

Expecting it to come out to ~$899NZD mind you, so small quantities.

Hey Nik I emailed PB the other day and it said they have no plans to range it? Will this change?

Cheers,

Me too.

In fact, I'm perfectly willing to shift carriers if one stocks them.

I'd definitely like to try one!! Not sure what the difference is here between these 2 but if their website is correct it looks like they have the 2nd one in stock:

BlackBerry KEYone BBB100-1 (32GB, Black)

Was that to the Websales team? They should (and usually do) check in with product management before advising customers of ranging plans. I'll let them know the KeyOne plans.

FWIW we're waiting for the North American launch on May 31st - since for the first time more-or-less ever - the North American SKU is the same as the APAC SKU and cheaper than the European release. Hooray, market synergy!

Will be small quantities to gauge interest, but it's definitely still on the cards.
