I have a 256MB Storage Card in my iPAQ, and can see it from "My Device" -> "My Storage Card".

How am I supposed to use this storage card? If this thing was designed a little smart the storage card capacity would just add to the total capacity of the device, not as a subdirectory apparently just usable for backups...

I like to read ebooks on it and it seems the MS Reader is hardcoded to look at "My Device" -> "My Documents" -> "Annotations" for the books. I would like it to use the storage card for books and other data. I tried using symlinks but it doesn't seem to work right, I get several different problems doing that, for example the symlinks don't appear in syncs.

The memory is not added to the main memory, but it is still usable. You can create My Dcuments folder on that card and store any Microsoft Reader documents there - it'll find the documents, don't worry.

Also, when installing a program, instead of clicking the "Yes" to the "Install on default location" question, click "No" and select Storage Card. I have all my programs (except the ones with a Today screen plugin) installed on the SD card. If the program is big, it adds a little delay when starting it, but that's all.

Thanks for the hint. I've played around with it a little now, and it seems that MS Reader finds the documents whereever they're located. That means it has to do a full scan at each startup .. duh! Would have been more clever if they just made a way to define where the "Library" was going to be found, wasted less cycles on startup and made sense.

Also, applying the same logic to Mediaplayer fails miserably. Seems if files are not located in \My Document\My Videos, Mediaplayer can't find the file. Yes, I can still browse to any other location with the file manager and click a video and have Mediaplayer start this way .. but I'm really not that impressed with the design of the PPC OS. I used to have a Palm for years and I must say it was designed in a much more logical and consistant way.

It may be just the initial impression - you'll see that after a while the fact that you can install and run the programs from the SD card is much better than the model used on Palm OS, where programs installed on SD/MMC cards have to be copied to RAM first...
