I have been using my Lumia 950XL for about 20 months, and still like it.  Recently it was locking up regularly when waking up so I bought some new batteries from Ali Express.

For those that may be experiencing similar problems, the symptoms were a flash of white on the screen and then nothing. I had to hold down power button for 12 seconds to reboot it. Various posts suggested the extra load on the battery when powering the screen on could have been the cause.

So these new batteries have arrived, I've charged them fully, let the phone go flat, and fully recharged again a few times, as recommended by the seller. The initial problems have gone, but when carrying the phone in my pocket (where it basically lives) it will just power off randomly up to about 3 times a day.

Since I suspect the new batteries are at fault, I'm looking for a favour. If there is anyone in Christchurch that I could loan a battery to, or preferably swap your battery for one of mine, for just a day, that would allow me to find out whether the phone is at fault (if it still turns off in my pocket) or the battery (if your phone starts turning off).

I'm happy to drive out to you to do the swap at a time that suits you, and obviously I promise you can have your battery back once the test is done.  Happy for you to take my driver's license details as proof of identity, or a copy of a phone bill or something to prove my address.

If the battery is at fault then I'll attempt a refund from the seller and find another one. If it's the phone, I don't know what I'll do - I'd hate to throw out my favourite phone.

Any help appreciated. If you could post a reply here and private message me, we can swap contact details and see what suits.

Cheers,

Bob T

A little late, but I'm wondering if you had any luck? I had to stop using my 950XL due to similar problems. It would often freeze and reboot, and would often switch off once it reached about 40% battery remaining and be unusable from then.

I really miss the camera and was looking at trying likely the same batteries. I'm in Christchurch but I don't imagine you trying my battery would be too beneficial if I'm having similar problems...

Hi,

I'd be happy to loan you one of my batteries to try.  I purchased 3, and the last one I've tried does seem to be reliable so I've kept using it.  That seems to answer my initial question; it wasn't the phone.

I will private message you my contact details, and we can try to organise something that suits.  If one of them works for you, you're welcome to have it for a fair and reasonable price if you want.  Happy to help a fellow Lumia enthusiast, especially now that Microsoft have sounded the death knell to Windows phones.

Cheers,

Bob T
