Greets to all,

I've been digging myself a large hole reading tutorials and going off willie nilly trying to get my 2215 to connect to my desktop (XP) for some wireless internet and network access.

I have a D-Link router and a Kensington (cambridge silicon radio) USB adapter with WIDCOMM 1.4.2 Build 10 software. I set the routers' IP to 192.168.0.5 and set up ICS in windows to no avail.

Any help will be appreciated!

Regards,

Fed

Fed, setting the router to 192.168.0.5 is not enough. For example, is this a DHCP enabled router? Are you sure other computers on this network aren't getting the 192.168.0.1 address required by ICS?

Is not simply plug and play, but more like a network planning exercise.

Ahem,

My router provides DHCP for my two computers connected to it, and the IP's are not 192.168.0.1

I have been methodical in checking devices to make sure everything should jive according to the articles I've read on this site, as well as searching the forums here and elsewhere to see if my question had been asked and answered already.

Right now I am getting a page cannot be found error in IE, and I can't even get the devices to even activesync. ActiveSync says the COM port I need to use is 'not available'. I've uninstalled the software and reinstalled it to no avail.

I am looking for someone who has the same setup (behind a DHCP router, XP, maybe the kensington adapter!) who could help. Does the kensington even support what I'm trying to do? ( I can't get a straight answer on that one either...)

Well, I have a router (actually used to have two in the same network), and I use Windows XP Pro and Windows Server 2003. I'm using TDK though.

Things you have to check:

  • Personal firewall software
  • ICS from adapter facing the network to Bluetooth adapter
  • Bluetooth adapter with 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0
  • ISP's DNS in Bluetooth adapter configuration
  • Personal firewall software
  • For LAP (which requires ICS), make sure the Bluetooth configuration is as follows:

On ActiveSync "The port is not available" indicates that you either have the wrong COM port defined or a firewall is blocking communications. Right-click ActiveSync, open Connection Settings and check that you have selected the port listed in the Services tab on your Bluetooth configuration. For this too, check that your Firewall is not blocking communications.

Also, if this USB adapter is connected to a USB HUB, move it to a USB port. If the motherboard is an old VIA model (four years old or more), replace it or add a USB card.
