I was at the launch of the T5 in Australia. BOOOOORRRRING. The Palm officials were hokey and did a very bad skit to launch the product.
They were fielded questions which they couldn't answer:
'Can you transfer files using file transfer viz bluetooth?'
To which was stunned silence and a 'We're not sure but we'll try and get back to you!'
Someone else asked, 'Can we use Windows Explorer instead of the File transfer software?'
To which they hemmed and hawed before finally giving some vague answer about the File Transfer being an easy method etc.
They ended the questions session VERY abruptly soon after.
I expected the launch of the new Treo but no go.
We all know that Palmone is a rather conservative company. But the Palm is too little too late.
Why should people pay $50 for a Blueetooth SD card when technology to incorporate it in the hardware is out there (Sony Clie's anyone?)? Also, if I use bluetooth, there goes my SD slot! How silly is that?
It strikes me as something that was rushed to the market (the Bluetooth SD cards won't be available till post-Christmas!). The non-flash memory is interesting but seriously, I still have to carry a cable to use it as a flash drive. I'd rather just stick with my USB Thumb drive thanks.
There was a time when Palm was revolutionary. The T was a design revelation and the Palm V is still one of the most wonderful machines that sit nicely in people's, well, Palms!
But the T5? Ho-hum.
Palm really needs to wake up. Palm boasts their increased market share. But we all know that Sony pulled out giving them that extra but of the market. And we all know why Sony pulled out of the Handheld market (can anyone say Pocket *C?). If Palm doesn't REALLY INNOVATE, I'd say that Pocket *Cs will just sweep the floor with them.
