Hi, hope someone can help me here.

I have an IPAQ1945, and home PC with WinXP pro SP2,and a belkin bluetooth USB dongle.

I have tried in vain to connect my PDA to the home PC to surf the net etc. I have followed instructions on the site, but whilst the system can see my PDA, with refuses to pair to it. All i get is that the home PC cannot pair with my device of that the device is not ready to pair. The blue light is flashing on the PDA, and it appears to be detecting. I first installed the Belkin drivers for the dongle, but I have since removed them, in add.remove programs, but I have not uninstalled the dongle via device manager. When I had the belkin drivers the dongle was not detected at all, the bluetooth icon was red. Now appear to be using the microsoft drivers and the icon is white in the middle, but no matter what I do, it refuses to pair up. Can anybody help at all. I am becoming desperate.

Many thanks

Chris

Just to add, the IPAQ refuses to respond to the passkey exchange, if this means anything to anybody. ALso when I look into the services my device provides, I get nothing displayed, but I have all the services enables on the PDA.

I don't do BT myself, but you may be interested in the thread from the Pocket PC magazine forums...

Have you started the pairing from the Pocket PC side or from the computer's side? If from the computer's side, have you changed the Pocket PC to be discoverable?

Thanks

How do I make the posket PC discoverable. I thought that just turning bluetooth on would do this. I am confused that the PC detects the PDA, but them tells me the device does not respond to the pairing.

Also tried the pocket PC forum as well, thanks.

Again the system fails at the pairing of passkeys.

Open the Bluetooth Settings and make sure the Accessibility is set to "Allow other devices to connect" and "Other devices can discover me" is checked.

Yes all that is OK.

Do you think it could be the dongle, I have heard reports of problems with Belkin dongles.

ALso should I completely disable my firewall before doing this. I have it set to trust local networks.

Any other advice???

Chris

The firewall can disrupt some of the Bluetooth communications - internally it uses some network stuff, so you can try with your firewall disable - but unplug from the Internet first.

Err whats a soft??

Do you think there is a problem with the pocket PC software. As I have said, everything appears to be OK, it just refuses to pair.

Is a soft a soft reset. Should I try a complete hard reset of the system after backing up. I have a 256Mb card installed.

If this dosnt work, am i resigned to having no bluetooth.

Would trying on a mates PC, who uses a different brand of dongle work do you think, he also uses Win XP pro Sp2.

The soft reset is like a CTRL-ALT-DEL. The Pocket PC has a small hole where you can insert a clip and it'll restart it - without losing the content.

A hard reset is different, it will actually restore the Pocket PC to the original softwar, erasing everything in it.

Thanks everybody.

I tried to pair my PPCwith a friends PC last night, who runs XP Pro SP2, but uses an unbranded USB dongle, and it appeared to work. I could also connect directly to his PPC, via bluetooth and browse his files. Does anybody know if there is a problem with the belkin dongles at all. I will try with an unbranded dongle this weekend to see if it works. If it dosnt, does anybody have any suggestions as to what could be wrong with my PCs settings???

Wouldnt be surprised if a different dongle does the trick. In my limited BT experience, BT devices can be very picky and stubborn. Great technology, but not user friendly enough for the masses in my opinion.

Did the trick.

used an unbranded dongle, with generic microsoft drivers, and the PDA and PC paired first time(although it had to be PC to PDA, as it wouldnt work the other way)
